About Mike

My name is Michael Squillace. I started environmental cleanup work at the age of 12½, organizing a massive community effort with the help of my dad. We arranged two semi-trucks and rallied my Boy Scout troop to clean up every local park in our area, including Como Park. All collected trash was sorted, and the recyclables were brought to a centralized site long before “sustainability” became a buzzword.

Today, I’ve been a certified diver for over 40 years. What began as a one-man mission to clean our underwater ecosystems has grown into something much bigger. I’m the founder of Reef Boyz, an organization dedicated to restoring our reefs by removing the massive amounts of toxic debris left behind over decades.

To date, I’ve personally calculated and removed an estimated 1 metric ton of lead, ¼ ton of aluminum, and other discarded materials from marine environments. My goal is to remove 100 metric tons of lead—along with proportionate amounts of aluminum and other debris—within the next 10 years. Every piece is sorted, recycled, and kept out of our oceans and, ultimately, out of our food chain.

As my dad always said, “Many hands make light work.” The reefs deserve better—and so do we. Mercury and lead contamination in seafood is a direct consequence of the pollution we’ve ignored for too long. You can only eat so much tuna a month—ever wonder why?

I clean so that one day, we won’t have to ask that question.

Alongside this mission, I’ve built a 45-year career in landscape design as the owner of All Terrain Landscaping, a five-star company creating sustainable, beautiful outdoor spaces.
